Recently, our paper “Association of education labor overmatch and health among U.S.-born and immigrant older adults” was selected as a 2025 Editor’s Choice in Innovation and Aging. This honor recognizes our paper as “exemplary, innovative work in gerontological research” that brings attention to new ways of thinking and has the potential to advance new directions in research.

This piece explores the trend of highly educated immigrant workers being far overqualified for their jobs, specifically asking if that mismatch is correlated with any health disparities. We found that the degree of overqualification correlates with health outcomes, and that this correlation persists, albeit to a lesser degree, even when accounting for differences in income and health insurance.
